Free GPS when you open key bank checking acct?
I saw a billboard for a promotion by Key Bank that if you open a checking account you get a free GPS. I checked out a few sites but I still feel like there is a catch that maybe I am too dumb to see. I have only opened one checking account in my life when I was younger and my mom helped me with it, so I am not super educated in all the fine deatils.
Can anyone tell me if this is a good promo or if I will get screwed in the end?
According to Key bank’s website ( http://www.key.com ) to get the free GPS:
. Between 3/28/09 and 5/1/09, you must open a Key Express Free Checking (this is the basic banking account in NY) or a Key Advantage Checking Account and by 7/3/09 make one debit card transaction and a combination of two direct deposits and/or automated payments each of $100 or more to get a Garmin® nüvi® 205W GPS.
So you need to open the correct type of account, then use the debit card at least once and make two direct deposits or automated payments.
Then once you get the GPS, you will get a 1099 form from the bank which you need to file with your taxes next year. Basically, you have to pay income tax on the ‘retail value’ of the GPS.
