2003 4Runner Bumper Attachment Help Needed?
I squished my driver side rear bumper – very minor damage but it poped out and i can’t seem to just pop it back in (it’s on but there’s a small gap between it and the body of the car). i don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars at the dealership when i can do it myself. anyone have any tips or know what to do?
It’s an easy repair if you’re handy with simple tools.
It’s just a plastic trim piece (called a bumper extension) held on with a few screws. Look underneath. There are tabs with holes in them for the screws. If it is just misaligned, loosen the screws, re-align it, and tighten the screws. If you’re lucky, you are done now. If the tabs are broken, then remove the screws, remove the bumper extension, and replace it with a new extension, then replace the screws. That’s it. Maybe 30 minutes total if you’re slow.
This vehicle has bumper extensions that came in two versions, (1) textured (not painted) or (2) smooth and painted. If you need a new bumper extension and it’s textured, just buy it and install it – no issues. If you need a new bumper extension and it’s smooth and painted, you will need to buy one and have a local body shop paint it to match your vehicle. It’s not a problem really, just an extra $100-$150 for the paint job. You want to have it painted locally so the painter can match the shade of paint to your vehicle because paint fades and there is nothing that makes a repair more obvious than a paint mismatch.
